The Sound of Summer in San Francisco
It’s summer time in California and that means it’s time not just for some sunny summer weather but also a whole host of fun and exciting music festivals! Hop in the car and take a scenic drive to San Francisco for these great events! Running from now until June 19th is the 34th Annual San Francisco Jazz Festival, which includes a collection of famous jazz artists across multiple venues throughout the city along with pre-concert talks and even jazz class workshops. If that weren’t enough, starting on July 14th and running until August 21st is the SFJazz Summer Sessions, which includes not just concerts by famous and up-and-coming jazz artists but also focuses on different genres and cultural influences on jazz and will also feature five different music documentaries with accompanying performances.
On July 9th, visitors can enjoy Phono Del Soul, a festival celebrating Bay Area music and food. With almost a dozen different musical acts covering multiple genres and just as many different food trucks showcasing everything from classic burgers to Korean barbecue and Indian soul food with frozen custard for dessert. Enjoy the beautiful summer weather, eat some amazing local food and listen to incredible music from the local scene. We can’t think of anything much better than that! But if you want something a little spicier, we recommend checking out the 7th Annual Salsa Festival on July 15th and 16th. While there’s no salsa you can eat, it’s an enormous dance party taking place under the stars on Fillmore Street. Dance the night away to classic salsa bands as well as contemporary DJs. This free event draws in huge crowds for a fun block party atmosphere that can’t be beat.
But maybe you want a break from music? In the case, you can enjoy some free Shakespeare in the Park, whose summer season kicks off on July 2nd and runs all the way until October, giving you plenty of chances to stretch out on a blanket at one of San Francisco’s many gorgeous parks and soak up some Shakespeare. This season’s play is The Winter’s Tale, on the bard’s lesser-known plays that’s famous for the bizarre stage direction "Exit, pursued by a bear." No matter what you choose to do with your summer, San Fran has the perfect soundtrack for it.
