The Best Art Museum You've Never Seen
Even the most enthusiastic art lovers are unaware of the Anderson Collection at Stanford University. The reason? It began as a private collection owned by Harry and Mary Anderson, who amassed an incredible amount of art – 121 modern and contemporary works of American art by 86 artists – before gifting it to Stanford, where it now sits free and available to the public, tucked away in a corner of the campus, but just down the road from our Stanford area hotel. The Anderson Collection features art from American greats like Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Wayne Theibaud, as well as intriguing pieces from less well-known artists. So head somewhere off the beaten art trail and immerse yourself in the best kept museum secret of the Bay Area.
