Craft & Comfort December 2013
Why not go take a stroll through Menlo Park’s Allied Arts Guild and maybe do a little shopping? The Guild is a collection of studios and galleries housed in a Spanish Mission-style complex that was founded in the 1920s, as documented then by a local photographer you might have heard of, Ansel Adams.
Here you’ll find a barn woodshop where a family has been crafting furniture since 1929, while the Artisan Shop focuses on handmade local crafts and vintage gifts, and an intimate assortment of galleries offers watercolors, etchings, photography, and other fine art, in addition to a potter and a florist. If you’re interested in the history of the Guild, there are docent-led tours of the complex Monday through Saturday. And you can feel good about this shopping excursion - profits from the Guild go to support Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. While there, grab a bite at the Blue Garden Café, serving lunch, snacks, coffee, and tea. Try the prosciutto and melon!
