Filoli Estate (Canada Road, west of Highway 92, Woodside)
Build in 1917, this classic 43-room
mansion with exquisite gardens on 654-acre estate were once
used as the set of the TV series "Dynasty." The
gardens feature a collection of more than 500 rose varieties.

Gamble Garden Center (1431 Waverley St., Palo Alto) Enjoy
this colonial Georgian house built in 1902, set on a 2.3-acre

Hoover Tower (Located at the corner of Serra and Galvez
Streets)
The tower's observation deck offers a sweeping view of the
Midpeninsula. Part of the Hoover Institution, it is dedicated
to the study of 20th-century war, revolution and peace.
Informal tours are $2 adults, $1 for kids and seniors, and
free for students with a valid Stanford ID, faculty and
immediate family. Hours: Daily 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Call 723-2053

Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve 1,200 acres of preserved
land set aside by Stanford for research and education, which
includes Searsville Lake. Tours for adults, October-May.

Public tours of the 426-acre particle physics research facility
offer a lay introduction to the workings of the electron

is located in the main lobby of Memorial Hall across from
the Hoover Tower. Free one-hour, student-led tours daily
